Backgammon or "Tavli" is a traditional greek pastime; however unlike Western Backgammon, Greeks play in a succession of three games: 

1. Portes. This is similar to Western backgammon.
2. Plakoto. A game where one checker can trap another checker on the same point.
3. Fevga. A game of Turkish origin where one checker by itself can block a point.

A true Tavli set requires a plain wooden board with no ornate designs or inlays of other materials, a set of small square dice, and mother of pearl pieces to give you an authentic sound when you play.

I found what i would deem an appropriate set online, however you have to buy the appropriate pieces and dice to complete the set.   Have Fun!
