Vori is a traditional village in the Messara Valley. The village has two potential namesakes. One pays homage to the son of the king of Phaistos Radamantis, Voros. The second comes from its location (located north of Phaestus, "voras" meaning north in Greek).
Vori covers an area of 700 acres and it consists of two sections, the Lower village (Katohori) that is the traditional part of the village, and the upper village (Panohori) the newer expansion growing since the turn of the 1900s. Today the village has approximately 750 inhabitants.
The village was populated continuously from the First-Minoan period (1800 BC) till today verified by the numerous piece of pottery that have been found in the village area. As a result there are many cultural sights and monuments worth visiting in Vori. As a result of this history and its agricultural strength the Ministry of Culture of Greece labeled Vori a traditional protected village in 1978.
The Mamalakis family have called this village home since the 1800s.
